Part 5 – Installing the piston rings and pistons
Pistons! We all love pistons right?
They are one of the most important parts of the engine and their purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft via connecting rods.
In this next part of our Cadillac engine build, it’s all about pistons! Bob and Josh will demonstrate how to attach the piston rings carefully, using the right tools for the job. Then, they will show you how to properly place the pistons into the Cadillac 390 engine using a method that does not damage the nice machine work that was done to the block.
This is a process you want to take your time on, because you will only do it once, so we made it easy for people to follow along.
